Flower Pot Clock

This was a long time in the making. Originally the clock I made for this was a lot bigger, I didn’t really think it through.

The three twist hollow Barley Twist was just not strong enough to support it so I chopped it off and made this one. The flower clock is still a bit heavy and does make the barley twist swing a bit.

It took far too many hours to make, lots of sanding and polishing, it needed to be as good as I could get it as it was for a competition.

Overcoming the technical difficulties of making this was perhaps a turning point in wood turning for me. I had never made anything so difficult before, it wasn’t something just looked pretty, the structure and strength of the stem really did take some thinking about. This was in fact the fourth stem I made, the others either broke or were just not strong enough.
